Macaroni and cheese in the oven

Macaroni with cheese and tomatoes is very similar to the famous macaroni and cheese, however, in this recipe the pasta is prepared while they are still in the oven. For cooking, you can take pasta of any kind – horns, bows, shells, etc., as long as they are made of durum wheat and of good quality. You have to cook them in salted water until al dente, that is, 1 minute less than indicated on the package. The pasta in the middle will remain a little raw, but will be ready in the oven.

What do we need?

  • Macaroni 200 gr;
  • tomatoes 160 g;
  • Hard cheese 96 gr;
  • butter 64 gr;
  • Ground black pepper to taste;
  • Salt to taste.

How to cook

Cook pasta until al dente. Wash the tomatoes, dry and cut into slices. Tomatoes choose juicy, but dense. Soft fruits do not hold their shape well; in the process of cutting and cooking, they will spread into a shapeless mass and spoil the appearance of the dish.

Cut the cheese into thin slices or grate on a coarse grater.

Put the pasta in a colander and drain all the water.

Return the pasta to the pot, add the butter and mix well. Taste pasta and season with salt and pepper if needed.

Put half of the pasta in a greased baking dish. Arrange some of the tomatoes on top.

Place half of the cheese on top of the tomatoes.

Repeat layers with the remaining pasta, tomatoes and cheese. Place the pasta in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes until the cheese has melted.

Sprinkle cooked pasta with herbs and serve. Enjoy your meal!
